3. What protection do you offer if an airline or tour operator goes bust?

Book with Confidence. Star Travel is a member of ABTA (A4657), IATA and ATOL Holders (2368). As we are members of ABTA you have the benefit of ABTA's assistance and Code of Conduct. All the package and Flight-Plus holidays we sell are covered by a scheme protecting your money if the supplier fails. Other services such as hotels or flights on their own may not be protected and you should ask us what protection is available.

More information on the benefits provided from each of our association memberships can be found below. Please note however that ATOL protection does not cover individual airline failure and therefore we strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance that provides airline failure cover to ensure you can obtain a refund should an airline fail. ATOL is a financial protection scheme for holidaymakers. If an ATOL tour operator fails, the ATOL scheme ensures customers contracted with the ATOL holder for an air package or a flight, do not lose the money paid over or are not stranded abroad. For more information go to www.caa.co.uk.

ABTA are there to give you advice and assistance. They can also explain how to protect your travel arrangements, so you don't lose out if your service provider fails financially, and they can help in the unlikely event that things go wrong. We are a member of ABTA which means you have the benefit of ABTA's assistance and Code of Conduct. Many of the travel arrangements that we sell are protected in case of the financial failure of the travel company. Please ask us about the protection that applies to your booking, or for more information go to www.abta.com

IATA simplifies the travel and shipping processes, while keeping costs down. Passengers can make one telephone call to reserve a ticket, pay in one currency and then use the ticket on several airlines in several countries. For more information go to www.iata.org.

4. Why should I buy travel insurance?

We strongly suggest that you purchase travel insurance every time you go abroad to ensure that you can claim compensation for any mishaps during your trip. We especially recommend that you purchase travel insurance that includes airline failure cover as this will protect you against any cancelled flights due to an airline going into administration. Without this specific type of insurance you will not be able to claim a refund at all should an airline fail.

The insurance package offered by us provides both airline and tour operator failure, as well as other standard travel insurance cover that you would expect. Please click here to get a travel insurance quote from Star Travel.

We also strongly suggest that for any European travel you carry the free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which will provide free or reduced emergency care in countries that are part of the European Economic Area (EEA). You will still need your own travel insurance to cover certain costs, so please do not rely on your EHIC to cover all medical costs when abroad.

5. What are my passport or visa requirements for my trip?
